Serendipity

空に浮かぶ雲が笑顔に見えて喜んだり、道端で拾った羽根に心が踊ったりと、子どもたちには生き生きとした豊かな感性がある。その澄んだ感覚は、大人になると鈍くなるようだ。

書籍「センス・オブ・ワンダー（The Sense of Wonder）」は、誰もが生まれながらにして持つ、神秘さや不思議さに目を見張る心="センス・オブ・ワンダー"がいつまでも失われないように。という思いを込めて、アメリカの海洋生物学者で作家のレイチェル・カーソン（Rachel Carson）が綴ったもの。デザイナー安原璢美はこの本に出合い、自然の美しさや、新しいものや未知なものに触れたときの感激を大切したいと感じた。

RUMCHE 2023-24年秋冬コレクションは、子どもの頃のピュアな感覚を思い起こし、想像力を掻き立てながら制作した。昨シーズンから引き続き、自然の美しさがインスピレーション源。カラーパレットは、夕日のオレンジ、空のサックスブルーやモーヴ。大地のブラウンやグレージュ、街中に光る工業的なシルバー。黒を多用しながらも、ベージュなどの淡いトーンを合わせることで全体の印象を柔らかくしている。

子どもの頃に夢中になった影遊びや紐遊び、ミサンガ作りなどを思い起こして、クラフト感も取り入れている。木陰が描かれたトップスとパンツのセットアップは、ベロアを脱色するハーフトーン加工で表現。躍動感のあるアブストラクトペイント柄は、染色技術の高い京都でプリントし、ドレスやボアアウターに落とし込んだ 。また現実と幻想の狭間を行き来するような感覚を、素材の凹凸やゆがみで表した。ギリシャの女神をイメージしたドレープドレスは、着心地がよく解放感もある。

ブランドのシグニチャーであるボンドヤーンは、初めて付属として採用。襟をボンドヤーンで縁取ることで、ドレスに自然でエレガントなドレープが生まれた。ほかにもボンドヤーンを花のモチーフにマクラメ編みしたベストや、かぎ針編みのブラトップやブーツカバーなどの新作もラインアップする。

新たにインドの職人とモノづくりをスタートさせた。カットソー素材を細かく刻んで、プリーツのように縫い合わせたカーディガンをはじめ、スモッキングの技法を大胆に施したブラウスやワンピース。いずれもユニークなテクニックを用いて、ハンドメイドの温もりがありながらも、洗練されたアイテムに仕上がった。 古着リメイクでは、ミリタリーの余剰在庫に新しい命を吹き込んだ。パンツをアウターに作り替えたり、ニットに染めの加工を施したりと、ファッションとして楽しめるようにアレンジしている。

“偶然の出会いや予想外のものを発見できる才能”のことを「セレンディピティ（Serendipity）」というそう。このコレクションが、セレンディピティを感じるられるようなお手伝いができますように。

A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement. They love to find faces in the clouds and pick up feathers on the street, making their hearts dance. A joyfulness which seems to dim as they grow up.

'The Sense of Wonder' written by Rachel Carson, an American marine biologist and author, intends to "Open your eyes to unnoticed beauty, evoke the gift of a sense of wonder that everyone is born with." Designer Rumi Yasuhara came across the book with excitement and felt she wanted to cherish the beauty of nature, the new and unknown.

The RUMCHE Autumn/Winter 2023-24 collection evokes this purity of childhood and stimulates the imagination. Continuing from last season, the beauty of nature is the source of inspiration. The color palettes are sunset orange, sky blue and mauve; earth brown and greige, industrial silver that shines in the city. While using black here and there, the overall impression is softened by combining light tones such as beige.

Reminiscent of the shadow play, string play, and Misanga (Friendship) bracelet taking you back to childhood and incorporating a sense of craftsmanship. The sets of tops and pants with shades of trees are expressed by halftone processing that bleach the velour. The dynamic abstract painted pattern was printed in Kyoto, having high dyeing technology, and is applied to dresses and boa outerwear. The unevenness and distortion of the material express the feeling of going back and forth between reality and fantasy. The drape dress, inspired by a Greek goddess, is comfortable to wear and gives the feeling of liberation.

For the first time, RUMCHE’s signature bond-yarn is attached to clothing as detail. Natural and elegant drapes were created on the dresses by framing the collar with bond yarns. There are also new line-ups of vests, knitted with bond yarn such as flower motifs, crocheted bra tops and leg warmers.

We have also started manufacturing with Indian craftsmen. There are cardigans made of finely cut material sewn together as pleats, as well as blouses and dresses with bold smocking. All of which use unique techniques to create sophisticated items with handmade warmth.

Our upcycling breathes new life into surplus military wears. Army pants are made into outerwears, and knitwears are dyed to make them fun fashion items.

Serendipity is the gift of accidentally discovering something wonderful. This collection was inspired to make you feel serendipitous.
